Friends in Faith
By Pat Hammond
I am excited to share with you plans for a new ministry we are launching this month at FPC. Jeanne Kruse, Meredith DeCou (moderator of Congregational Care team of Deacons), Jana Phelps (Congregational Care Coordinator), and I, have been working together to reimagine the former Caring Friends program. I want to introduce to you – Friends in Faith ministry.
Friends in Faith is an intergenerational ministry that focuses on both the spiritual and life needs of members of our congregation. Our hope is that through friendship, kind actions, and by providing compassionate, caring support for one another we will find ways to encourage and share God’s love with one another. This ministry focuses on building relationships through practicing presence, and by cultivating a sense of belonging both inside and outside our church walls. Through friendships and presence with one another we hope to serve as a living reminder of God’s love.
We recognize that we all have different ways we like to connect with other people. Friends in Faith will allow you to choose what is comfortable for you. Friends can come alongside one another through phone calls, e-mail messages, or face-to-face visits either at home or in the community. You may also connect with someone by being their prayer partner. Or you and your friend may decide you want to go to lunch or the zoo or a movie. You will decide what works best for you and your friend.
Everyone is welcome to join this ministry as we intend for it to be a truly inter-generational ministry. Jana and I will be visiting our members that live in care facilities and inviting them to participate also. The Friends in Faith ministry hopes to cultivate a caring and loving friendship-based community.
God is at work in mighty ways at FPC and out in the community and I can’t wait to see how we can join what God is up to!
On this journey with you!
