Immanuel - God with Us

bible_16333bc.jpg

But with every flip of the calendar, as you journey through time in this thing called life, there is one truth that rings clear in the midst of it all – you are not alone. Every moment of every day, no matter the shape of  the day, you are not alone. Not ever. Never have been. Never will be.

Because our God is a “with us” God. As we celebrate the birth of  Jesus at Christmas we celebrate the birth of Immanuel, which means “God is with us.” This is the good news we carry with us as we walk through this life – God is with us!

I see a new year as a fresh, new start. I have no idea what 2019 has in store for us, but I fervently believe that whatever happens we are not alone. God is with us. Always has been, always will be.  Thanks be to God!

The start of a new year can conjure up a mixed bag of emotions for many of us.  Some of us may have just experienced “the best year ever!” and we are looking forward to 2019 with great anticipation and hopes and dreams for an even greater year to come. Some of us have just slogged through a year full of challenges and struggles, one after another after another. For those of us who have been beaten down and are worn out, the flip of the calendar brings desperate hope for things to be better.

At some time or another in my life I have been in both spaces at the flip of the calendar and I am sure you all have been there too. Excited at what lies ahead in the clean-slate of the new year, or ever so thankful to God that the year is finally over.
